At Garners Dental Surgery, we understand that fear of the dentist can prevent people from receiving the treatment they need. IV sedation may be recommended for suitable patients who experience moderate to severe dental anxiety or require lengthy or complex dental procedures. Since 1968, our family dental practice has provided gentle, compassionate care to patients across Marrickville and the Inner West.
maintaining optimal oral health and preventing oral disease and decay. Poor oral health not only affects the health of your gums and teeth but also impacts on your general health with links to heart disease and stroke to name a few.
Here at Garners Dental we are very focused on the implementation of a preventative care program and helping each of our patients obtain an optimal level of oral health. A thorough oral health care routine should include brushing twice daily and flossing to remove all bacterial plaque and maintain a clean tooth surface. Regular visits to the dentist for preventative care check-ups and a professional clean are also vital in any oral health routine. A visit every 6 months is recommended allowing for the diagnosis of potential oral health issues in their early stages and a professional clean.
IV (intravenous) sedation involves administering sedative medication through a vein under appropriate clinical supervision. It helps patients feel deeply relaxed while remaining able to respond to verbal instructions. Many patients remember very little of their appointment afterwards.
IV sedation may be appropriate for patients with significant dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, previous traumatic dental experiences, or those undergoing treatments such as wisdom teeth removal, dental implants or multiple procedures. Suitability is determined after a comprehensive assessment.
Your care begins with a consultation to review your medical history, medications and treatment plan. On the day of treatment, the sedative is administered intravenously and you are carefully monitored throughout the procedure. Following treatment, you recover under supervision before returning home with a responsible adult.
Patient safety is our highest priority. IV sedation is only recommended following a detailed assessment and is provided with continuous monitoring throughout your procedure. You will receive personalised pre-operative and post-operative instructions, including arranging transport home and avoiding driving for the remainder of the day.
If dental anxiety has delayed your treatment, speak with our friendly team about whether IV sedation is the right option for you. We are committed to making your dental experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
